Freegans

Freegans. Free + Vegan. Does that rings a bell? Nope, not for me. Heard this on the Oprah Winfrey Show, my favourite talk show on TV! Except for the sandwich episode...I was hoping for something more than her love for food T_T. You can always ask Wiki what's freegans, ain't going to explain in depth. Freegans are people who employ alternative strategies for living based on limited participation in the conventional economy and minimal consumption of resources (http://freegan.info/). Basically it is a lifestyle of people with MONEY (affordable people) and MESSAGE (and to spread the message too) that decided to cut off their spending on food, furniture, clothes etc by JENG JENG! finding them in the garbage bins! Man! Tabik spring! Not that they don't have the money, it's how over-consuming we are triggers them to make a very bold political statament, I mean, just how many people are willing to step forward and actually practise such a lifestyle? They are "cakap serupa bikin". Waw. Pulling out edible food out of trash, it is possible.

My bro once working in a fast food chain, they helplessly throw all the unsold yummy2 food and not allowed to tapau. Sayangnya~. Well, the food belongs to the company until it gets into the dumpsters. In the Oprah show, they sent this lady to join the freegans in a trash tour. Many are white-collar workers and they found a lot of food in good condition. Grocery stores simply get rid of slightly dented (kemek) canned food and any packaged food near their expiry date for legal reasons. These freegans "save" the food we selfishly ignore. At one point, a freegan showed a dozen of egg kena buang just because an egg pecah T_T. Haaa? What a waste!

Last night I text message my dad a simple sentence because he was driving, "Pa beli roti sdap". 1st, I was hungry (avoiding rice), 2nd, some bakery stores have their own happy hour, discount bread and all. Buy one free one, half price etc. Yummy2 breads were all I ate last night. Thank goodness they're doing that daripada supermarket buang2 vege, fruits, canned foods, yummy food, just because it's their policy to protect them from any legal actions in case the foods they're giving out will cause health damage. But there are stores doing that, giving out to-be-discarded-food to charity. People always choose the best, the freshest, the nampak sedap'est, elok'est, cantik'est, bersinar-sinar'est before taking it off the shelf, don't you? Money value la kononnya, walaupun no more sinar2 by the time you finally have the time to cook/eat them. So, the unsold products, the least sinar2, the one intended to be thrown away, will be given out to charity. Uhmm...never heard of Malaysian company doing that though. I wish they did. Elak pembaziran. We should really remind ourself on how much we consume, over spending. I am reminding myself, by writing this entry. End of freegans.

Afgan Syah Reza, he is too cute to be true. His voice is so beautiful! Bak kata dorg, smooth, charming and romantic. Yeap, it's true. He is a newcomer in our music industry from Indonesia, Terima Kasih Cinta as his 1st single and he is only 19! Nevermind about Nubhan (ceh kejam), all the songs in Afgan's 1st album, 1st Confession is worth listening to, seriously.

The talented and cute Afgan
